Construction Company – Co-Managed IT & Infrastructure Transition

When a mid-sized construction company faced the upcoming retirement of a senior Engineer, leadership knew they needed a sustainable solution. The Engineer had over 40 years of institutional knowledge, making a single replacement hire difficult. After evaluating multiple options, they selected Jolt for a co-managed IT partnership. The goal was to preserve critical knowledge, reduce operational risk, and strengthen their technology foundation for future growth.

What was the issue?

The company’s challenge centered on the planned retirement of an Engineer who had been with the organization for 43 years. While there was a nine-month transition window, the hiring process revealed another challenge. Finding one individual with the same depth and breadth of knowledge would be extremely difficult.

Much of the company’s infrastructure relied heavily on one person. This included file servers, project management systems, jobsite connectivity, and backups. That reliance created risk and limited visibility for leadership.

What did we do to solve it?

Jolt delivered a comprehensive, customized co-managed IT agreement designed to assume the majority of the retiring Engineer’s responsibilities. Our team conducted a full environment review, shadowed the existing Engineer, and documented critical systems and workflows. We also implemented structured monitoring, standardized credentials, and provided clear visibility into both on-premise and cloud assets.

Over time, Jolt gradually assumed operational responsibility while also addressing long-standing infrastructure needs. Aging systems were upgraded, jobsite network designs were strengthened, and a modern backup and disaster recovery strategy was put in place.

By the time the Engineer retired, the company had a fully documented and resilient IT environment. Instead of relying on a single individual, they now had the support of a team of highly skilled Engineers.

The client shared that Jolt has been “very good at meeting our needs and responding to critical issues.” They added that they “cannot say enough good things about Jolt’s performance” and would “highly recommend Jolt.”

The result was a seamless transition, minimized risk, and a reliable IT foundation. It continues to support the company’s office operations and field growth.
